Truman Women Hand Missouri-Rolla 87-66 Cage Defeat in Kirksville

The Truman women's basketball team stayed in the postseason hunt this evening after handing Missouri-Rolla an 87-66 loss in Kirksville. It was payback for the 74-49 defeat of the Bulldogs by the Lady Miners back on Jan. 22, 74-49.

Missouri-Rolla led 4-0 in the early going, but Truman used an 8-0 run from there to take the lead for good. Junior guard Adri Trump started the run with a layup and scored a few seconds later to tie the score at four apiece after a steal and fast-break layup.

The Bulldogs took their first double-digit lead at 13:22 in the first period after another 8-0 run. A three-pointer by Annie Westhoff with 29 seconds to go before intermission left the 'Dogs with a 42-30 halftime lead.

Westhoff scored 16 points in the first half and went on to lead the team with a career high of 30 points.

Truman expanded its lead to 20 by 18:20 in the second half after opening the period with a 9-0 run. The Bulldogs enjoyed their greatest lead, 28 points, with 2:17 left to play, 87-59.

The Lady Miners managed to hold the Truman subs in check from there while going on a 7-0 run to finish off the game.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Truman and left them in a tie for the eighth spot in the MIAA standings with Central Missouri.

Junior forward Sarah Sommer and Tromp both scored 18 points and sophomore center Jamie Huffman had 10 points to account for Truman's double-digit scorers. Tromp and Westhoff tied for the team-lead on the boards with nine apiece.

The Bulldogs shot 49.1% from the field to UMR's 36.5% performance. The 'Dogs were also 26-of-37 from the line and the Lady Miners were 11-of-19.
