Central Missouri-74, Truman-55
In a game of large runs, the Jennies knocked off the Bulldogs by a 74-55 score on Saturday in Pershing Arena.
The Jennies shot 50% from both the field and three-point range in the game. Central Missouri also had a 15-8 advantage in turnovers, which led to Central scoring 17 points off turnovers, compared to just five for Truman. The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 37-29, but shot just 39.3% for the game.
Truman struggled out of the gate, falling behind 30-9 with six-and-a-half minutes left in the first half. However, the Bulldogs took momentum into halftime by closing out the half on a 13-2 run, and they trailed just 36-27 at intermission.
Truman continued chipping into the lead early in the final period, getting the score as close to three at 43-40. Central Missouri, however, went on the next run, scoring 16 of the next 18 points to retake. That run gave the Jennies a 17-point lead, one large enough that the Bulldogs couldn't comeback from. In that 16-2 run, 13 of the Jennies' points came from Jenna Shackelford.
Shackelford ended the game with 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field, including six-of-eight from beyond the arc. She also hit her only free throw attempt. Ashley Millham added 20 points for Central Missouri and she led the team with seven assists. Melissa Richardson had a team-high eight rebounds.
Truman was led by Sarah Sommer with 16 points and Jamie Huffman with 12. Natalie Schupbach had 11 rebounds, breaking her previous career-high by five boards.
Men's Basketball Recap
Central Missouri-73, Truman-56
The Mules only shot 41.2% from the field but took advantage of numerous trips to the free throw line as they defeated Truman on Saturday by a 73-56 score.
The Bulldogs made the same number of field goals as the Mules and hit three more three-pointers. Truman also won the rebounding battle by a 37-35 margin. However, the home team shot just 34.4% from the field and Central Missouri scored 20 more points than the Bulldogs at the free throw line.
Truman never led in the game but the score was still close at the break with Central Missouri leading by a 29-26 margin. The Mules never led by more than four points in the first-half.
The game remained close early in the second-half, with Truman drawing within one in the first five minutes. Over the next seven minutes, Central Missouri would pull away though, with a 20-3 run.
Four Mules were in double-figures, led by Kenan Oliver who had 17 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds. Derek Weber and Pat Schumacher each scored 13 and Reggie Soward added 11.
Truman could not take advantage of a season-best game by Chip Sodemann, who scored 20 points. He hit eight-of-13 from the field, including three from beyond the arc. Matt Beran was the only other player in double-figures with 10 and Derek Lindsey led the team in rebounding with nine.
