Northwest Missouri-89, Truman-61
The No. 19 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats bounced back with an 89-61 win over Truman Wednesday night at Bearcat Arena, and are once again tied for the conference lead following ESU's loss at Southern.
Northwest opened the game with an 11-5 run in the first five minutes to open up a lead they would not relinquish. A three-point field goal by sophomore G Laura Friederich put the Bearcats in front 21-14 at the midway point of the first half.
Northwest continued to build its lead over the next 10 minutes, using a 17-11 run to build a 13-point lead with just over a minute remaining. The 'Cats took a 10-point advantage into halftime.
The second half saw a determined Bearcat defense come out and hold Truman scoreless for the first four minutes and 14 seconds. The lead was as large as 32 points in the second half for Northwest.
Senior G Jane Chalmers led the team with a game-high 18 points and nine assists to go along with five rebounds. Friederich hit double-digit scoring for the fifth straight game, notching 17 points, and senior C Sarah Vollertsen added 14 points and seven boards.
Freshman G Megan Patti came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs (8-13,
2-11 MIAA) with 13 points.

Northwest Missouri-73, Truman-52
The No. 7-ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats picked up their 20th win, topping Truman, 73-52, Wednesday night at Bearcat Arena.
Northwest (20-2, 11-2 MIAA) fell behind, 8-2, in the first four minutes, as Truman converted four of its first five field-goal attempts. The Bulldogs remained hot over the next six minutes and built their advantage. Back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore G Matt Brock gave Truman a 21-12 lead midway through the first half.
The Bearcats chipped away at their deficit. Three-pointers by senior G Kelvin Parker and senior F Keanan Weir pulled Northwest within three, 25-22. The Truman lead was still three, 27-27 with 5:55 to go in the first period. Then, both teams ran into a full-fledged scoring drought.
Neither team scored for nearly four minutes. Junior F Byron Jackson ended the scoreless streak with a jumper at the 2:12 mark, getting the 'Cats back within one, 27-26. Northwest took its first lead 40 seconds later on a jumper by junior Travis Gardner. The Jackson and Gardner buckets sparked an 11-0 spurt to end the first half. The 'Cats headed to the locker room with a six-point lead, 33-27.
Northwest continued to build its lead in the early going of the second half. A three-pointer by junior G Jesse Shaw gave the 'Cats a nine-point lead at the 17-minute mark. Shaw converted a three-point play the old-fashioned way less than two minutes later to make it a 13-point game. Another Shaw bucket with 14:25 remaining made it 46-31. Shaw scored eight of Northwest's 13 points over the first 5:35 of the second half as the Bearcats took control.
Jackson led Northwest with a team-high 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Four other Bearcats reached double figures. Gardner, sophomore F Austin Meyer and Shaw all scored 11. Freshman F Victor James tacked on 10.
Matt Beran scored eight of his game-high 14 points in the first 11 minutes of the contest for Truman (7-15, 3-10 MIAA). He was the only Bulldog in double figures.
