Pittsburg State-66, Truman-41

The Gorillas jumped out to a 45-18 halftime lead on their way to a 66-41 win over Truman on Saturday in Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo.

Truman led 13-12 seven minutes into the game, but was outscored 33-5 for the remainder of the half. Pittsburg State shot 56.3% from the field in the first-half and held the Bulldogs to 24.1% shooting for the field.

In the final half, both teams struggled offensively . The Bulldogs outscored Pittsburg State 23-21 in the period but could never cut the deficit below 18 points. Truman forced 14 turnovers in the final half and only allowed the Gorillas 15 field goal attempts, but the visiting team was able to connect on nine of those shots.

Pittsburg State was led by Stephanie Shanline who had 16 points after hitting seven-of-11 of her shots from the field, including two-of-four from long range. Katie Spieker was also in double-figures with 12 points and Janelle Klein led the team with six rebounds.

Truman was led by Jamie Huffman who netted 13 points on six-of-eight shooting from the field and one-of-one from the free throw line. Huffman also led the team with nine rebounds and Adri Tromp had a game-high five steals.

Pittsburg State-84, Truman-65

The Gorillas came out strong in the second-half and earned a MIAA road victory over Truman by a 84-65 score.

The game was much closer than the final score indicated. The score was tied a few seconds before halftime when Pittsburg State's Zac Shepherd made a layup and was fouled with two seconds remaining. The conventional three-point play gave the Gorillas a 35-32 halftime lead.

Pittsburg State carried the momentum of that play into the second-half. After Truman made one-of-two free throws to start the half, the Gorillas went on a 15-2 run to put the Bulldogs in a large hole. The Bulldogs got as close as seven with 7:21 remaining, but Pittsburg State outscored Truman by a 22-10 margin the rest of the way.

Seven Pittsburg State players scored at least seven points, including five who were in double-figures. Jason Taylor led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Jamey Richardson just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds and he also blocked five shots.

Truman was led by Chip Sodemann who tied a season-high with 14 points. Grant Agbo continued his streak of scoring in double-figures with 12 points and Austin Kirby added 10. Derek Lindsey was the team's top rebounder with seven. Returning all-MIAA player Matt Beran returned from an injury for the Bulldogs. In limited playing time, he had two points, one rebound and one block.
