Southwest Baptist-73, Truman-71

A late rally by the Bulldogs fell two points short as they lost to Southwest Baptist by a 73-71 score on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena.

Truman trailed by seven points with a minute remaining, but was able to cut the lead to two. The Bulldogs got the ball back after the Lady Bearcats missed the front end of a one-and-one. But, with only four seconds remaining after the miss, they couldn't get a shot off before time expired.

The two teams played a back-and-forth first period and Southwest Baptist went into the break leading 38-34. Truman's Sarah Sommer had a big half, scoring 19 points to keep the Bulldogs close.

The second-half belonged to the Lady Bearcats' star player, Amber Wheeler. Wheeler scored 21 points in the final half, helping Southwest Baptist to never trail in the period.

Wheeler finished the game with 24 points and Gwyn Smith added a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds for Southwest Baptist.

Sommer had a final tally of 21 points and six rebounds. Truman's Kelli Floyd added 16 points and Jamie Huffman recorded 12 points and eight boards.

Southwest Baptist-48, Truman-31

Southwest Baptist's Jarrett Brown stole the show in Pershing Arena on Wednesday night as he helped his team defeat Truman by a 84-69 score.

The Bearcats won the game in the first-half as they shot 70% from the field, including six-of-nine from beyond the arc. Truman led 18-17 with 11:45 remaining, but was outscored 31-13 the rest of the period, giving Southwest Baptist a 48-31 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs rallied early in the second-half, twice cutting the lead to eight. Truman couldn't contain Brown, though, as he scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the final period, putting out every Bulldog rally and giving the Bearcats a comfortable win.

Brown was nine-of-15 from the field and seven-of-10 from three-point range in the game. Arthur Trousdell and Cedric Ousley each scored 16 points and had a team-high six rebounds. Ousley also dished out eight assists.

Truman was led by Matt Beran who had a season-high 19 points and just missed a double-double with nine boards. Grant Agbo added 15 points and Chip Sodemann was in double-figures with 13.
