Women's Basketball Team Signs Jamie Huffman for 2001-02 Season

Jamie Huffman from St. Peters, Mo., and Francis Howell Central High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Truman women's basketball team beginning in the fall.

Huffman, a 6-1 center/forward, was named to the first all-Gateway Athletic Conference team, and was an honorable mention all-metro choice this past season. A three-time all-league pick, she set the school record for most points in a game with 31 vs. Francis Howell North on Dec. 21, 2000. Huffman averaged 11.2 rebounds per game as a senior, and was named to the all-Seckman Holiday Invitational Tournament team for the second time. She was also named the Suburban Journals' prep athlete of the week last December, and earned the honor during her sophomore season as well.

Huffman also played golf for four years finishing second at the Gateway Athletic Conference Tournament as a sophomore and placing third her other three seasons. As a senior, she finished 11th at the Missouri State High School Golf Tournament, her fourth trip to the state meet.

Huffman was also a member of the swimming team, earning honorable mention all-conference honors as a junior with an eighth-place finish in the backstroke.

Truman, an NCAA Division II institution, also signed Kirksville native Kelly Floyd in the early signing period last November. The 5-7 point guard was named first-team all-conference and second-team all-state at the conclusion of her high school career.

The Truman women's team was 9-17 and 4-14 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association last season under first-year head coach John Sloop. The Bulldogs did not lose any seniors from its 2000-01 squad and will return two all-conference performers, Jennifer Perkins and Wendi Sobaski.
