Women's Cross Country Sweeps All Three Events At The Augustana Open

The Truman women's cross country team opened up its season at the Augustana Open last Friday after the originally scheduled Western Illinois Invitational was cancelled. Three races were run at the Augustana Open and the Bulldogs took first-place in all three.

In the two mile run, senior Leah Zidon (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) ran away from the other four competitors, finishing the race in 11:47. Truman also finished second and third in the race as sophomore Abbie Smith (Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling) recorded a time of 12:13 and freshman Francine Schafer (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) crossed the finish line in 13:00.

In the three mile race, Truman took home three out of the top four finishes. Freshman Alana Walker (Masonville, Colo./Poudre) was the winner in a time of 18:27, just edging sophomore teammate Sarah Armstrong (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) who also had a 18:27 time. Freshman Jacquie Faust (St. Louis/Cor Jesu Academy) was fourth in the race with a mark of 19:01.

In the four mile run, the Bulldogs' Dani Rawlings (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South), a junior, was the first-place finisher as she completed the race in 24:38. Freshman Meg Robertson (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) was fourth overall after a time of 24:48. Sophomore Pam Bird (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) and freshman Lauren White (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit) were eighth and ninth, respectively, with times of 25:34 and 25:47.

The women's cross country team will be off this upcoming weekend but will be in action again on Sept. 20 at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
