The Bulldogs women's cross country team finished fourth overall and second among Division II schools at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. last Saturday. Perhaps more importantly, the team was first among the five MIAA schools at the competition, including Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State, two teams picked ahead of the Bulldogs in the preseason coaches poll.

Freshman Megan Robertson (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) led a balanced Bulldog run that saw their first four runners finish within 14 spots of each other. Robertson finished 20th overall with a time of 18:36, one second ahead of junior teammate Dani Rawlings (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) who was 21st overall.

Sophomore Sarah Armstrong (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) was third on the team and 29th overall with a finishing time of 18:48. Freshman Alana Walker (Masonville, Colo./Poudre) was 34th after recording a time of 19:00. Senior Leah Zidon (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) rounded out the scoring by finishing 48th with a time of 19:19.

The women's cross country team will be off next weekend. Their next race will be on Oct. 4 at the Miner Invitational in Rolla, Mo.
