Luebbering Chosen for Third-Team Academic All-America Honors

Truman State University junior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America Women's Fall/Winter At-Large Third Team as selected by CoSIDA.

Luebbering, who carries a 3.96 GPA in agricultural science/pre-vet, placed 11th at the 2000 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association cross country championships last fall, helping the Bulldogs to their first-ever women's conference title in the sport. Among Truman's top three runners in four of her five races while hampered by injury, she was also 12th at the Division II South Central Regional.

Last year, Luebbering was a first-team academic all-America on the women's spring at-large team and also earned first-team academic all-district in fall/winter at-large balloting. She is also an academic all-MIAA performer and a member of the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Luebbering is currently competing in the outdoor track & field season with the Bulldogs. She is a two-time all-America performer in the 10,000 meters and is the two-time defending conference champion in the 3,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter events.

While Luebbering was a first-team academic all-district VII pick, second-team selections were sophomore Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./Topeka West) from the women's swim team and senior Niki Taylor (Crestwood, Mo./Lindbergh) from the women's soccer team. Dudley, who has a 3.82 GPA in exercise science, helped Truman to the NCAA Division II championship this year as she won the national crown in the 100-yard backstroke and finished as runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke and 200 and 400-yard individual medleys. Taylor finished third on the 15-4 women's soccer team with five goals, four assists and 14 points. She has a 3.81 GPA as a biology major.

On the men's side, junior Justin Shew (Webster Groves, Mo.) was a first-team academic all-district VII selection. Shew, who maintains a 3.89 GPA in biology/computer science, was third on the Bulldog men's soccer team with five assists and also finished tied for fourth with 13 points and fifth with four goals.
