Women's Cross Country Team Dominates at William Jewell
Seven Truman runners finished in the top 10 and all 11 runners placed in the top 18 on Saturday as Truman won at the William Jewell Invitational in Liberty, Mo.
The Bulldogs were led by senior Kristi Willenberg (St. Peter's, Mo./Francis Howell/UMKC) who placed second overall with a time of 20:30.00 over the 5,000-meter course. In fourth for Truman was sophomore Leah Zidon (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar), who completed the race in 20:32.00. Sophomore Suzanne Schmidt (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn) was fifth in 20:52.00.
Also in the top 10 for Truman was sophomore Jennifer Tesmer (Harrisonville, Mo.), who finished in 21:00.00. Junior Jody Shanks (Liberty, Mo.) placed eighth (21:02.00), followed by junior Amy Johnson (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) in ninth with a time of 21:14.00. Junior Brandy Leffler (Gibbs, Mo./Brashear) rounded out the 'Dogs' top-10 finishers by placing 10th in 21:26.00.
Truman finished the meet with a score of 26, 16 points fewer than second place Doane (Neb.). Park University finished third and William Jewell was fourth.
The Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday at the Iowa State University Invitational.
