Women's Cross Country Third at Regionals; Narrowly Misses Cut
The Truman State University women's cross country team just missed out on making a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships when it placed third at the Division II South Central Regional on Saturday (Nov. 3) in Joplin, Mo.
The 'Dogs scored a total of 77 points in the meet, which was won by Central Missouri State with a score of 40. Pittsburg State (Kan.) finished with 60 points for second place. Missouri Southern (124) was fourth, followed by Abilene Christian (Texas) with 150. The top two teams on the women's side from the regional meet earn a trip to the NCAA meet to be held on Nov. 17 in Slippery Rock, Pa.
Truman placed one runner in the top 10, junior Jennifer Tesmer (Harrisonville, Mo.), who placed sixth overall in 22:31.1 on the 6000-meter course. Senior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) finished 11th in 22:48.4. Tesmer was a mere six seconds out of the final individual qualifying spot for the NCAA Division II Championships. Senior Emily Komiskey (Galena, Ill./Dubuque Wahlert) finished 15th in 23:05.9,
Tesmer, Luebbering and Komiskey earned all-region honors by placing in the top 15.
Freshman Dani Rawlings (Fargo, S.D./Fargo North) was 22nd with a time of 23:20.6. Junior Suzanne Schmidt (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn) placed 23rd with a time of 23:25.0. Senior Jody Shanks (Liberty, Mo.) also earned a top-30 finish with a time of 23:32.8 for 29th overall.
Sophomore Sonya Yamnitz (Hallsville, Mo./Helias) captured 34th position in 23:44.9.
