Truman Women's Golf Team Is In Second After Day One of Bulldog Classic
The 2003 Bulldog Classic started today under wet conditions, but the weather did not affect the host school as Truman finished the day in second-place with a first-round score of 355. The event is being played at the Kirksville Country Club on a par 74, 5,813-yard course.
Erin Fogarty and Jill Schulte both shot 85s for the Bulldogs and are tied for fifth-place in the individual standings. Alyssa Pulphus broke 90 by shooting an 89. Ashley Elliott and Dyane Tower rounded out Truman's squad as Elliott shot a 96 and Tower shot an 98.
Three other Bulldogs are playing as individuals at the meet. Melissa Pfeiffer shot an 99 and Katie Martinek and Calie Fulmer both recorded scores of 107.
Lindenwood leads the team standings after day one after shooting a 330. The team's top three golfers are all ranked among the top four individuals in the leaderboard. Western Illinois trails the Bulldogs by three strokes after recording a score of 358. Simpson is in fourth (363) followed by Wartburg and Rockhurst in fifth (373), Central College in seventh (389) and Missouri Western in eighth (393).
Quincy only has three golfers and are not figuring in the team scoring but the Hawks' Lynn Schlepphorst leads the individual standings by two strokes after shooting a 77. Lindenwood's Itzel Nieto and Sandy Thind are both tied for second with 79s.
The two-round event will conclude on Saturday with the players teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
