Women's Golf Ends Its 2003-04 Season On A High Note
Senior Erin Fogarty (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) ended her Bulldog career on a positive note last weekend, earning medalist honors at the Hickory Point Invitational in Decatur, Ill. Her first-place finish helped the Bulldogs tie two other schools with the best two-round score, but the team lost the tiebreaker and finished tied for second at the event.
Fogarty shot an opening round of 80, her best this spring season, and she was just one shot behind the leaders going into the final round. In the final round, she shot an 81, the second-best round of the day, and her two-day score of 161 won the event by two strokes. It was the fourth time in her career that Fogarty has earned medalist honors. She also won the Rockhurst Invitational in 2001 and finished first in two dual competitions.
Junior Ashley Elliott (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) had one of her best tournaments of the 2003-04 season, finishing second on the team and tied for tenth overall. She shot an opening round of 87 and then knocked two shots off that score on day two for a total of 172.
Junior Lauren Allen (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville) and freshman Sara Lloyd (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) also had top 20 finishes. Allen tied for 12th with a two-day score of 173 and Lloyd tied for 19th with a 175.
Rounding out the squad at the event, hosted by Millikin, was senior Calie Fulmer (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) and sophomore Dyane Tower (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonsville). Fulmer was tied for 50th with a score of 197 and Tower tied for 52nd, two shots behind Fulmer.
This event ended the 2003-04 season for the Bulldogs. Fogarty had a strong
finish to her career, leading the Bulldogs in three of their four spring
events and having top-10 overall finishes in the final two events of the
season. She led the team during the year with an 85.8 average. Allen will
be the top returner next season for Truman. She led the team in the fall
with a 82.3 average and ended the season with an 86.6 mark. Lloyd was the
top Bulldog freshman this season. She was the only Bulldog to compete in
every event and she led the team in scoring in three tournaments during
the year. She ended her rookie collegiate season with an 87.9 average. Elliott
and Tower were the other main Bulldog regulars during the 2003-04 season.
Elliott ended the year with a 93.6 average and Tower recorded a 94.1 mark.
