Women's Golf Finishes Tied For Fourth At Cougar Classic

In its second meet of the 2004-05 season, the Truman women's golf team finished in a tie for fourth-place at the Cougar Classic. The Bulldogs shot a 351 in the final round, the third-best score on the day, and completed the event with a two-day score of 719. Drury University won the 11-team event with a two-day score of 691.

A trio of freshmen led the way for the Bulldogs. Amanda Senn (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) had a top-10 finish, tying for sixth overall after a pair of 87s. Laura Westensee (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) tore up the course on Monday with an 83, the third-lowest round of the day. She finished with a 178 which tied her for 12th. Marta Samojluk (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) shot two rounds of 90 and tied for 15th-place. She had five birdies in the tournament, the most of all the competitors.

Lauren Allen (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville) and Dyane Tower (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonsville) rounded out the team. Allen shot a 187 and finished in 29th while Tower had a two-day total of 199, which placed her in a tie for 37th. Ashley Elliott (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) competed as an individual and tied for 17th with a 191.

The team will be in action again on Saturday and Sunday at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament in Normal.
