Women's Golf Team Places Third at Bulldog Classic
The Truman State University women's golf team placed third out of eight teams on Friday and Saturday at its Bulldog Classic, held on the par 74 Kirksville Country Club.
The Bulldogs finished with a score of 742 (368-374) to beat fourth-place Simpson (Iowa) by four strokes. Defending tournament champion Lindenwood won the tourney with a two-day tally of 702 (347-355), followed by Western Illinois with 714 (353-361).
Senior Amy Franzen (Highland, Ill.) led the Truman contingent, finishing tied for seventh with a score of 181 (91-90). Sophomore Erin Fogarty (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) tied for 13th with a 183 (95-88) and senior Becky Costello (Liberty, Mo.) was 15th with 189 (87-102). Juniors Jill Schulte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) and Alyssa Pulphus (Naperville, Ill./Lafayette) tied for 20th with scores of 197. Freshman Ashley Elliott (Grinnell, Iowa) rounded out the Bulldogs' six team members, as she finished with 204.
Three Truman freshmen competed as individuals, including Lauren Allen (Kirksville, Mo.), who tied for 10th overall with a 182 (89-93). Katie Harms (Weatherby, Mo./Maysville) tied for 16th with 191 (94-97) and Melissa Pfeiffer (Edwardsville, Ill.) tallied a 212 score.
The Bulldogs are slated to get back in action this Friday and Saturday in Urbana, Ill. at the Illini Classic.
