Women's Soccer Team Hosts Two MIAA Games

TRUMAN: The Bulldogs posted their seventh consecutive shutout Sunday beating Southern Indiana 2-0. Truman is 10-3 overall and is unbeaten in the MIAA. Junior Stephanie Cepicky (Omaha, Neb./Duchesne) has five team-leading goals. Junior goalkeeper Emily Huyck (Omaha, Neb./Westside) has 75 saves on the season.
TRUMAN vs. SOUTHERN INDIANA: Defense was the story once again: the Bulldogs have not been scored on in 630 minutes of play. Southern Indiana managed only two first-period shots. Hyuck finally saw some action at the net in the second period, but the Eagles received no mercy as she posted five saves. In the 32nd minute Cepicky headed in a blocked shot to give the 'Dogs a 1-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Heather Murry (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) put the game out of reach in the 87th minute with an unassisted goal.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: Missouri Southern's 5-8 record is misleading; five games have been decided in overtime. They are 1-2 in the MIAA. Missouri Southern has posted wins over Southwest Baptist 2-1 (twice), Central Arkansas 1-0, Park 3-1, and Rockhurst 1-0. They owe losses to Nebraska-Omaha 4-0, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 2-0, Northeastern State (Okla.) 4-0, Quincy (Ill.) 1-0, Central Oklahoma 6-0, Oklahoma Christian 1-0, Northwest Missouri 1-0, and Central Missouri 2-1. Kedi Vrska has 4 team-leading goals and Moe Ybarra has 93 saves.
Missouri-Rolla is 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. They have posted wins over Northern Kentucky 5-3, Indiana/Purdue-Fort Wayne 3-1, Northwest Missouri 4-0, Harding (Ark.) 4-0, and Rockhurst 5-1. They owe losses to Minnesota State-Mankato 6-3, Southern Indiana 1-0, Northeastern State (Okla.) 2-1, William Woods 2-1, Central Missouri 2-1, and St. Joseph's (Ind.) 1-0. Liz Szkrybalo has eight team-leading goals and Ana Mora has 49 saves.
SERIES RECORDS: Truman dominated Missouri Southern 6-0 in their first meeting last season. Against Missouri-Rolla the 'Dogs own a 11-6-2 record. The teams met last season with Truman squeaking out a 1-0 win.
HEAD COACH MIKE CANNON: Truman head coach Mike Cannon is in his eighth season with the Bulldogs. He is the winningest coach in Truman history and was ranked 17th by percentage and 20th by victories among NCAA Division II active coaches with a 76-40-13 (.640) all-time record at the start of the 2000 campaign. He is now 86-43-13 (.660) during his collegiate career at Truman.
TRUMAN IN THE MIAA: The Bulldogs' conference-leading defense, led by Huyck averaging 0.82 goals-per-game, has helped them to the best record in the MIAA. Truman is third in team offense with 2.15 g/gp. Miller is fifth in scoring with 1.0 pts/gp and Cepicky is eighth with 0.85. Miller, Adams, and Ell are all on the top 10 assists list. Cepicky is sixth in the goals-per-game category averaging 0.38 and Miller is ninth with 0.31.
