Women's Soccer Team Signs Robyn Mortenson
The Bulldog women's soccer team received its sixth national letter of intent this year when Robyn Mortenson (Lake Villa, Ill./Antioch Community) signed to play for Truman earlier this month.
Mortenson has been a varsity member of the Antioch soccer team since her freshman season and has played with the Rockford Dactyls U-18/19 Select team the last two years. She was also an all-conference performer as a sophmore and earned all-sectional honors her junior season. The forward/midfielder will pursue a degree in speech pathology at Truman, beginning in the fall of 2003.
She was joined earlier in the year by five other women, Katie Buehler (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt), Lauren Davis (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo), Lauren Hawks (Omaha, Neb./Burke), Kera Reilly (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) and Melissa Rhomberg (St. Louis/Nerinx Hall).
The women join a Bulldog squad that completed the 2002 campaign with a 16-3-2 record, making their second straight trip to the NCAA Division II postseason tournament. The 'Dogs also posted an 11-0-1 record in conference play, claiming their fourth consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association crown. Head coach Mike Cannon enters his 11th season at the helm of the team in 2003.
