Women's Soccer Team Signs Five New Players
The Bulldog women's soccer team has received national letters of intent from five women for the 2003 fall season. Katie Buehler (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt), Lauren Davis (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo), Lauren Hawks (Omaha, Neb./Burke), Kera Reilly (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) and Melissa Rhomberg (St. Louis/Nerinx Hall) have committed to Truman's soccer program for the upcoming season.
Buehler received numerous soccer awards in high school, including state tournament MVP honors and a first-team all-state selection her senior year. As a junior, she was the Marquette Bank high school player of the year, and as a sophomore, she was a second-team all-state pick. She also served as team captain her sophomore, junior and senior years. Buehler participated in track and cross country as well. Academically, she was student of the month in 2002, a member of the National Honor Society and was on the honor roll from 1999-2002.
Davis is a goalkeeper for Kickapoo where she posted 26 shutouts in 47 games for her high school career. As a junior, she was her team's MVP and the all-regional goalkeeper of the year. Her junior year, she was an all-state honorable mention pick and a first-team all-region and all-district selection. She was also an honorable mention all-district pick as a freshman. Davis participated in volleyball and basketball in addition to soccer. She is a member of the National Honor Society, has been on the principal's honor roll and student council for three years, and has been an academic all-district honorable mention choice for three years.
Hawks was a forward/midfielder at Omaha Burke. She was an all-division pick as a sophomore and junior. Hawks was also chosen as an honorable mention all-state player as a freshman, sophomore and junior. In the classroom, she was a member of National Honor Society and student government.
Reilly, a defender, was a member of a conference champion and state runner-up soccer team her sophomore and junior years. She was also a second-team all-conference pick her sophomore and junior years and received honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman. Reilly also participated in bowling.
Rhomberg was a midfielder for Nerinx Hall High School.
The women will join a Bulldog squad that completed the 2002 campaign
with a 16-3-2 record, making their second straight trip to the NCAA Division
II postseason tournament. The 'Dogs also posted an 11-0-1 record in conference
play, claiming their fourth consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association crown. Head coach Mike Cannon enters his 11th season at the
helm of the team in 2003.
