Women's Soccer Team Garners Seven All-Region Selections

A total of seven women were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America all-region teams. No less than three members of the team were selected to the NSCAA's first-team, including junior forwards Sara Murray (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Ellen Wright (Kirkwood, Mo.) and junior defender Stephanie Cepicky (St. Louis/Lindbergh). These women will now advance to the all-America ballot.

Murray shattered nearly every Truman and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association career record this past season. She led the team with a school-record 18 goals and 51 points and is now a three-time NSCAA first-team all-region selection and first-team all-MIAA pick. Murray was also recently named a second-team academic all-American according to CoSida.

Wright was second on the team with 13 goals and 35 points, and Cepicky tied for fourth in goals (4), including going 3-for-3 on penalty kicks, and was fourth in points as well with 13.

Second-team NSCAA all-region picks were freshman goalkeeper Lauren Davis (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo), senior back Beth Wieman (Dittmer, Mo./Rosati-Kain) and junior midfielder Anna Sonderman (Manchester, Mo./Nerinx Hall), while freshman midfielder Robyn Mortenson (Lake Villa, Ill./Antioch) was a third-team choice.

Davis had the fourth-best season in school history, allowing just 12 goals and posting a 0.59 goals against average.

A four-year starter, Wieman has been instrumental in the Bulldogs stifling defense over the past four seasons. She helped limit Truman foes to just 50 goals in the last 82 games.

Sonderman has been a force in the midfield for the 'Dogs and finished third in team-scoring with 16 points, behind four goals and eight assists. She ranks eighth on the Truman career assists list with 16 and is the only other repeat selection to the all-region list, aside from Murray, after earning first-team status in 2002.

Mortenson started every game in her inaugural collegiate season and finished fifth in team scoring with 11 points and was second in goals with five.

The Truman women's soccer team finished 18-2-1 in 2003 and made its third straight trip to the NCAA tournament.
