Wright's Late Goal Propels Truman To Victory

box score

The third-ranked Truman continued their winning streak this afternoon as they defeated the Emporia State Hornets 1-0 at Truman Soccer Park.

They are now 9-0-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in the MIAA. The Bulldogs have won their last seven games. The Hornets dropped to 5-4-1 overall and 3-1 against conference foes.

Unlike the Missouri Southern game September 6th, the Bulldogs managed to score in a game that seemed destined for a scoreless tie.

For over 80 minutes, neither team could break the tie. Truman had the offensive advantage, but could not produce until the 81:27 mark. Then, senior forward Sara Murray (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) found senior forward Ellen Wright (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) in front of the net.

Wright headed the ball past Hornet goalie Kristin Nelson to break the scoreless tie and send the Bulldogs to their eighth win this season.

It was Wright's third goal of the weekend, as she had a pair yesterday versus non-conference opponent Winona State. She has six goals and 12 points for the campaign.

As a team, the Bulldogs outshot the Hornets 17-5. They also blanked Emporia on corner kicks, 6-0.

Sophomore goalie Lauren Davis (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) had three saves to garner her seventh shutout of the season and improve to 9-0-1 overall.
