Bulldogs Record Another Shutout, Defeating Emporia State 2-0

box score

The Truman women's soccer squad recorded its 10th shutout over the last 11 games as the team defeated Emporia State by a 2-0 score on Sunday afternoon in Emporia.

Shots were fairly even in the game as Truman had eight shots on goal compared to seven for Emporia State. Bulldog goalkeeper Lauren Davis turned away all seven shots though as she recorded her 14th shutout of the year. The 14 shutouts ties a Truman record for a season and ties her for fourth in NCAA Division II history for shutouts in a season.

The Bulldogs took eight corner kicks in the first-half and one of them led to the game's first goal. Sara Murray took the kick in the 33rd minute and found Anna Sonderman on the left side of the box. Sonderman completed the play with her fifth goal of the season, four of which have been game-winners.

Murray then added an insurance goal late in the game. In the 87th minute, an Ellen Wright pass found Murray and she scored her 14th goal of the season from 10 yards out.

Truman improved to 16-0-2 on the year and 10-0-2 in MIAA play. The Bulldogs are off until next Saturday when the MIAA title will likely be on the line when they host Southwest Baptist at 11 a.m. The Lady Bearcats currently are 10-0-1 in conference action and they play two other conference matches before coming to Kirksville.
