Truman Knocks Off Missouri Southern By A 1-0 Score
Truman women's soccer team got some revenge on Sunday against the team that has ruined its perfect record up to now and picked up a key MIAA win in the process.
In the Bulldogs' MIAA opener in 2004, they tied the Lions by a 0-0 score. Sunday, Truman was able to put a goal up on the scoreboard in its 1-0 victory. The win improved the team to 7-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.
Like the previous meeting, Truman outshot the Lions by a large margin, this time by a 20-8 on shots and an 11-3 mark on shots on goal. Missouri Southern's Alese Woolard was able to stop 10 Bulldog shots, but couldn't get in front of a header by Ellen Wright in the 27th minute which turned out to be the only goal of the game. The header came after a pass on the right side from Molly Benson.
Lauren Davis made three saves in the game as she earned her fifth shutout of the season.
Truman will return home next weekend for games against Winona State (Minn.) and Emporia State (Kan.).
