Four Bulldogs Earn MIAA Player of the Week Honors

The women's sports teams at Truman had a big week last week and they were awarded by winning four of the five player of the week awards giving out by the conference to women's teams.

MIAA Women's Soccer Players of the Week: Sara Murray, F

Murray, a 5-foot-9 senior from Eden Prairie, Minn., maintained her torrid scoring pace with a pair of four-point games in two wins for the No. 6 Bulldogs last week.

She had both tallies in Truman's 2-0 win at Missouri-Rolla Friday (Sept. 17), in the 16th and 80th minutes.

Murray had a goal and two assists in the 4-1 home win over Washburn Sunday (Sept. 19). She helped on the go-ahead goal by senior M Anna Sonderman in the 50th minute and the third goal by sophomore M Robyn Mortenson in the 55th minute before getting her own goal in the 61st minute.

In only seven games, Murray has 10 goals, leaving her 13 games to get the 10 more needed to set the MIAA's single-season record.

She is a graduate of Eden Prairie High School.

MIAA Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Lauren Davis

Davis, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Springfield, Mo., went 2-0 with a 0.50 goals against average in helping the No. 6 Bulldogs to two conference wins last week and their best start in school history (6-0-1).

She made one save in a 2-0 win over Missouri-Rolla Friday (Sept. 17). She also had one save and one goal allowed in a 4-1 win over Washburn Sunday (Sept. 19).

Davis, who has been in goal for all seven matches, is a graduate of Kickapoo High School.

Wilson®/MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week: Sarah Shearman, OH

Shearman, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Manchester, Mo., averaged 5.08 points and hit .322 (55 kills, 9 errors, 143 attempts) as the No. 3 Bulldogs extended their season-opening winning streak to 12 matches with three wins last week -- two over other Top 25 foes.

She scored 29 points with a career high 26 kills along with a service ace and four block assists in a 3-2 win at No. 11 Central Missouri State Wednesday (Sept. 15). She hit .324 (26-4-68) in the match, and recorded all six of the Bulldogs' kills in the deciding fifth game, including one which snapped a 7-7 tie for a lead which wouldn't be lost.

After scoring 13.5 points (12 kills, 3 block assists) and hitting .333 (12-2-30) in a 3-0 sweep Friday (Sept. 17) against Emporia State, Shearman had 18.5 points (17 kills, 3 block assists) and hit .311 (17-3-45) in a 3-1 win the next day over No. 19 Washburn.

Shearman, the 2003 AVCA Freshman of the Year, graduated from Lutheran South High School.

MIAA Women's Cross Country of the Week: Lauren White

White, a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Lee's Summit, Mo., was the top MIAA runner at the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday (Sept. 18).

She completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18 minutes, 4.37 seconds, as she helped the Bulldogs finish as the top Division II school at the meet (fourth overall behind Oklahoma, Arkansas and Southwest Missouri State) with 167 points.

White is a graduate of Lee's Summit High School.
