Women's Soccer Victorious At Missouri-Rolla By A 2-0 Margin
The Truman women's soccer team, ranked seventh in the country, is also off to one of its best starts in school history. Despite that, the team still needed a victory in its second MIAA contest of the year at Missouri-Rolla on Friday night after they had tied its only other conference game so far. And the Bulldogs were able to get that "W", defeating the Miners by a 2-0 score in Rolla.
The win improved the Bulldogs to 5-0-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in conference play while the Miners fell to 1-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in MIAA action.
Goalie Lauren Davis recorded her fourth shutout of the season, thanks to a stingy Bulldog defense which allowed only two shots, one of them on goal, in the entire match. Truman's offense had 24 shots on the game, 10 on goal, as the team kept pressure on the Miners the entire night.
Sara Murray continued her hot scoring streak with her third multi-goal game of the year. She scored the first goal in the 16th minute with a shot from the wing after a Truman throw-in. Molly Benson received credit for the assist. Murray struck again in the 80th minute, scoring off an assist from Robyn Mortenson.
Murray, the school and conference all-time scoring leader, now has nine goals and 20 points in just six games this season.
Truman will be at home this Sunday afternoon in another MIAA contests, taking on Washburn (Kan.) at 11 a.m.
