Women's Soccer Picks Up Another MIAA Victory

box score

The Truman women's soccer team managed only one goal on Friday afternoon against Washburn despite taking 27 shots and recording 15 shots on goal. That one goal though was enough to give the team a 1-0 victory over the Lady Blues.

The third-ranked Bulldogs improved to 15-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the MIAA while Washburn fell to 4-9-3 overall and 2-6-2 in conference play.

Robyn Mortenson scored the game's only goal in the 25th minute with an assist coming from Ellen Wright. The goal was Mortenson's fourth of the season and her first game-winner of the 2004 campaign. Wright's assist was her second of the season and gives her 20 points for the year.

The rest of the game belonged to the two goalies. Truman's Lauren Davis only faced six shots and had to make a save on just one of them for her 13th shutout of the season. Washburn's Jenna Hatlestad made nine saves in the first-half to keep it a one-goal lead and then made five more saves in the final period.

Truman will be in action again on Sunday afternoon when it travels to Emporia State (Kan.) for a 1 p.m. match.
