Truman Comes From Behind To Beat Washburn By A 4-1 Score
The Truman Women's Soccer team fell behind early to the Lady Blues of Washburn but rebounded with four goals in a 20-minute span to win 4-1 in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference game.
Washburn's Amanda Geist took a shot from about 25 yards out that went over the head of sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Davis (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) to give the Lady Blues a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
Truman responded off a corner kick with a goal by sophomore Melissa Snodgrass (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) that bounce around in the box before it found the back of the net. The goal was Snodgrass's first on the season.
Senior Anna Sonderman (Manchester, Mo./Nerinx Hall) scored the game winner off a header from a corner kick by senior Sara Murray (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) just four minutes into the second-half. For Sonderman, it was her second goal on the season and the third assist on the year for Murray.
Murray picked up another assist on the Bulldogs' third goal just five minutes later. Sophomore Robyn Mortenson (Lake Villa, Ill./Antioch) took a pass from Murray on the left side of the box and slid it into the net for the 3-1 lead.
Murray added insurance six minutes later when she scored on a header off a cross by junior Lauren Cepicky (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) set up by a pass by Sonderman. It was the eighth goal of the season for Murray, who also has a team-high 24 points during the 2004 season.
The Bulldogs improved to a school-best 6-0-1 overall record and a 2-0-1 mark in the MIAA. Washburn falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference action. Truman will next be in action on Sept. 26 as they travel to Missouri Southern for a 7 p.m. game.
