Women's Soccer Team Competes in the Ramada Inn Classic Saturday and Sunday

GAME 1: Truman State University Bulldogs (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/NCAA Division II) vs. University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (North Central Conference/ NCAA Division II), Saturday 1 p.m.
GAME 2: Truman vs. University of Northern Colorado (NCC/NCAA Div. II), Sunday, 1 p.m.
TRUMAN: Truman won two in a row over Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at the Truman Classic improving their record to 2-2 last weekend Bulldog scoring is led by junior Melissa Miller (Olathe, Kan./South) and transfer Molly Adams (Omaha, Neb./Marion Tulsa Univ.), each with two goals.
TRUMAN VS MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: Truman was on the board in only 11 minutes and 23 seconds in their first game against Missouri-St. Louis in the Truman Classic. Sophomore Anna Smith (Jefferson City, Mo.) provided the assist on the 'Dog's first goal by Miller's. Truman struck again only five-and-a-half minutes later when Adams found the net with help from sophomore Jessica Pohren (Omaha, Neb./Duchesne). The Bulldogs held UMSL scoreless to the 71st minute when the Riverwomen finally put the ball in the net. However, that was not enough as junior Emily Huyck (Omaha, Neb./Westside) posted six saves and Truman captured its first win, 2-1.
TRUMAN VS SOUTHERN ILLINOIS-EDWARDSVILLE: The Bulldogs shot 17 times against SIUE but found themselves scoreless at the end of regulation time. Fortunately, the Cougars were held to only nine goal attempts, none of them finding the net and pushing the game into an extra period. Three minutes into overtime, senior Niki Taylor (Crestwood, Mo./Lindbergh)scored on a corner-kick that forced the Cougar keeper inside her own goal upon attempting the save, giving Truman its second win of the season.
THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS: Nebraska-Omaha holds a 4-2 overall record with wins over Missouri Southern 4-0, SIUE 3-0, Findlay 2-1 ot, and Wayne State 2-1. The Mavericks owe their losses to Northern Kentucky 4-0 and Northern Iowa, 3-1. Sophomore Katie Hobbs has three team-leading goals this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Villanueva has seen the majority of time in goal making 28 saves.
The University of Northern Colorado is 3-2 overall with wins over Quincy (Ill.) 1-0, SIUE 3-0, and Fort Lewis, 1-0. The Bears posted losses against Colorado College 3-0, and Southern Colorado 2-1ot. UNC scoring is led by junior Mandy Nilsen with three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Kipling has played all games making 14 saves.
SERIES RECORD: Truman lost its first and only meeting with Nebraska-Omaha on Sept. 25 last year 2-1 in Kirksville. Against Northern Colorado is ahead in the series 5--1-1. The last meeting occurred in the 'Dogs 1996 season finale when the two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in Kirksville. Truman's only win in the series was on Oct. 5, 1991, in Greeley, Colo., 3-2.
HEAD COACH MIKE CANNON: Truman head coach Mike Cannon is in his eighth season with the Bulldogs. He is the winningest coach in Truman history and was ranked 17th by percentage and 20th by victories among NCAA Division II active coaches with a 76-40-13 (.640) all-time record at the start of the 2000 campaign. He is now 78-42-13 (.635) during his collegiate career at Truman.
TRUMAN IN THE MIAA: The Bulldogs boast the second best team defense in the MIAA, giving up 1.58 goals per game. Adams and Miller are tied for fourth in scoring with 1.25 points per game. They are also tied for fourth in goals per game with .50 g/gp. Pohren, with a .33 assists per game, is tied for second in the conference, while Adams and Miller are tied for third in the same category with .25 a game.
