Women's Soccer Team Travels to Winona State (Minn.) and North Dakota State

TRUMAN: Truman split two games last weekend, falling to tournament host Nebraska-Omaha 2-0, and beating Northern Colorado 3-2. Bulldog scoring is led by junior Melissa Miller (Olathe, Kan./South), transfer Molly Adams (Omaha, Neb./Marion Tulsa Univ.), and freshman Stephanie Cepicky (St. Louis/Lindbergh), each with two goals.
TRUMAN VS. NEBRASKA-OMAHA: Junior goalkeeper Emily Huyck (Omaha, Neb./Westside) worked overtime as UNO fired 20 shots, 12 of them in the first period. Truman managed only one shot of its own, but the score was tied at zero going into the second period. Truman fought through most of the second period, but with 10 minutes left the Mavericks came alive scoring back-to-back goals and handing Truman a loss.
TRUMAN VS. NORTHERN COLORADO: Northern Colorado struck early, scoring before three minutes came off the clock. Truman answered 14 minutes later when Stephanie Cepicky beat the goaltender with an assist provided by junior Missy Ell (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic). UNC put a scare in the Bulldogs, taking the lead with a corner kick just before the end of the first period. In the 69th minute Heather Murry (St. Charles, Mo./South) took a pass from Miller to tie the game. The Bulldogs kept their composure as the clock ticked away threatening an extra period. With two minutes left in regulation time Miller passed to Cepicky who scored the winning goal. Huyck posted 11 saves as the Bulldogs picked up their third win.
THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS: Winona State holds a 3-2-1 record with wins over Rockhurst 2-1, St. Cloud State 4-0 and North Dakota 2-1. They have lost to Central Missouri State 1-0, North Dakota State 1-0, and posted a tie with Parkside, 1-1. The Warriors are led by last year's freshman standout Minelle LaPolice. Returning goalkeeper Crystal Pearson allowed an average of 0.72 gpg last season.
North Dakota State is 4-3 with wins over Jamestown (N.D.) 4-0, Mary (N.D.) 6-0, Minnesota State-Moorhead 6-0, and Winona State (Minn.) 1-0. They owe their losses to Rockhurst 2-0, Central Missouri State 1-0, and Minnesota-Duluth 1-0. Nicole Vanden Bos has four team leading goals. Goalkeepers Kelly Tierney and Tara Sweeney have shared time in the net both with two shutouts.
SERIES RECORDS: Truman has split two meetings with Winona State 1-1. In the teams' last meeting Winona State defeated Truman 2-1 in Kirksville. Against North Dakota State Truman holds a 2-0 series record. The last meeting was in the 1998 Truman Classic when the 'Dogs pulled out with a 1-0 overtime win.
HEAD COACH MIKE CANNON: Truman head coach Mike Cannon is in his eighth season with the Bulldogs. He is the winningest coach in Truman history and was ranked 17th by percentage and 20th by victories among NCAA Division II active coaches with a 76-40-13 (.640) all-time record at the start of the 2000 campaign. He is now 79-43-13 (.633) during his collegiate career at Truman.
TRUMAN IN THE MIAA: The Bulldogs boast the second best team defense in the MIAA, giving up 1.71 goals per game, and are third in total offense with 1.33 p/gp. Miller is fifth in MIAA scoring with 1.00 pts/gp, and Adams is eighth with .83 pts/gp. Adams and Cepicky are tied for sixth on the goals per game list averaging .33 while Huyck is second on the other side of the net allowing 1.71 gaa. Truman displays its teamwork holding four of the top six positions in the assists per game category. Sophomore Anna Smith (Jefferson City, Mo.) is second on the list averaging .40 assists per game, and Miller is third with .33a/gp. Sophomore Jessica Pohren (Omaha, Neb./Duchesne), and Adams are tied for sixth with .17a/pg each.
