Women's Soccer Team Hosts Truman Classic Saturday and Sunday

GAME 1: Truman State University Bulldogs (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/NCAA Division II) vs. University of Missouri-St. Louis Riverwomen (Great Lakes Valley Conference/NCAA DII), Saturday, Noon

GAME 2: Central Missouri State University Jennies (MIAA/NCAA DII) vs. Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars (GLVC/NCAA DII), Saturday, 2 p.m.

GAME 3: Central Missouri vs. Missouri-St. Louis, Sunday, Noon

GAME 4: Truman vs. S. Ill. Univ.-Edwardsville, Sunday, 2 p.m.

TRUMAN: The Bulldogs lost their first two games of the season last weekend, falling to tournament host Minnesota State, Mankato 3-2, and Minnesota-Duluth 3-0.

TRUMAN vs. MINNESOTA STATE, MANKATO: In the season opener, Mankato scored first just 35 seconds into the game to put the 'Dogs on edge from the start. But junior Melissa Miller (Olathe, Kan./South) put the first goal of the millennium in the net at the 13-minute mark, served up by transfer Molly Adams (Omaha, Neb./Marion-Tulsa Univ.). The Bulldogs then took the lead following a goal by Adams from Miller at the 20-minute mark, and carried the lead into intermission. The Mavericks tied the score in the 74th minute which held up through the remainder of regulation time and sent the 'Dogs into overtime in their first game of this century. Neither team put the ball in the net in the first extra period. However, it took MSUM just a minute and 15 seconds in the second OT period to score the game-winning goal.

Bulldog goalkeeper Emily Huyck (Omaha, Neb./Westside) made 13 saves, while Miller led the team with five shots for the day.

TRUMAN VS. MINNESOTA-DULUTH: Minnesota-Duluth was held scoreless until just prior to the break, tallying their first goal in the 41st minute, and scoring again in the 49th minute to go ahead 2-0. UMD added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to hand Truman its first shutout of the century. Huyck charted three saves, while Miller took both of Truman's shots for the game.

OPPONENTS: Missouri-St. Louis is 2-1, registering wins this season over Rockhurst 2-0 and Florida Southern, 1-0. In between wins, they fell 4-3 to the University of Tampa. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Jones leads the teams with three of the Riverwomen's six goals so far this season. Kathleen Hertling has spent all three games in goal for UMSL, making 15 saves.

SIUE is 2-2 this year, beating Missouri Southern 2-0 and Northwest Missouri, 4-0. The Cougars lost their season opener to Nebraska at Omaha 3-0 and are coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 19 Northern Colorado. Colleen Creamer leads the team with two goals and 14 shots. The Cougars' keeper, Beth Louderman, has made 22 saves in the last four games.

Central Missouri is 3-1 overall and led by April Reyes with five shots and two goals. The Jennies keeper, Carrie Payne has faced 78 shots and made 44 saves in four games.

SERIES RECORDS: Truman has six wins to UMSL's eight in the series between the two schools, and they have tied twice. Against SIUE, the Bulldogs have a 5-6-2 series record.

HEAD COACH MIKE CANNON: Truman head coach Mike Cannon is in his eighth season with the Bulldogs. He is the winningest coach in Truman history and was ranked 17th by percentage and 20th by victories among NCAA Division II active coaches with a 76-40-13 (.640) all-time record at the start of the 2000 campaign. He is now 76-42-13 (.630) during his collegiate career at Truman.
