Truman Women's Soccer Team is No. 1 Seed in Central Region; Will Host Second-Round Game of NCAA Division II Postseason Championship Tournament

For just the second time in the history of the Truman women's soccer program, the team has earned a bid to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.

The Bulldogs were the No. 1 seed in the Central region and earned a first-round bye and the opportunity to host the second-round game in Kirksville on Saturday, Nov. 10. A time will be announced later this week.

It is the first time the women will play at home in the NCAA tournament.

In 1997, the women made their first postseason trip and won their first-round game at St. Joseph's (Ind.), 1-0. However, the Bulldogs lost the quarterfinal game at West Virginia Wesleyan the following week, 1-0.

Their are eight regions and 24 teams participating in the 2001 DII tournament. All games will be played on campus sites are the participating institutions.

Truman competed its regular season with a 17-2-0 record and claimed its third-straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title with an 11-1 record.

Head coach Mike Cannon is in his 10th season coaching the Bulldogs and has a stellar record of 109-45-13 (.692). He is the winningest women's soccer coach in the 18-year history of the program at Truman. Cannon registered his 100th career victory in the 'Dogs' 5-0 win at Northwest Missouri on Sept. 30, 3-0. Heading into the season, he was ranked 16th by percentage and 20th by victories among NCAA Division II active coaches.
