Women's Soccer Team Adds One More Newcomer for 2001 Campaign
Katie Laws, a stopper from Springfield, Mo., Kickapoo High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer for the Truman Bulldogs, beginning in the fall of 2001.
Laws has played soccer for the past nine years and was honorable mention all-state and first-team all-district and all-region, as well as a first-team academic all-conference choice, in 2000. She was named co-defensive player of the year for Southwest Missouri.
Laws will be joined by her former teammate, Whitney Fancher, who signed a national letter of intent in April to play for Truman.
Along with the two Kickapoo products, Ellen Wright, a midfielder/forward from St. Louis, Sara Murray of Eden Prairie Minn., and Lisa Manns of Overland Park, Kan., will also join the Truman squad this fall.
Last season the 'Dogs captured their second consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association title, posting a 15-4 overall record. The winning campaign marked the end of head coach Mike Cannon's eighth season with the 'Dogs. Cannon, who was named MIAA co-coach of the year, holds a 91-44-13 (.659) career record.
