Wrestling Team Opens Season at Central College
The Bulldog wrestlers begin their 2003-03 campaign on Tuesday at Central
College in Pella, Iowa, at 7:30 p.m.
The 2002-03 edition of Bulldogs wrestling features two returning national qualifiers, sophomore Merrick Meyer at 141 pounds and junior Grant Strickland at 125 pounds. Because of his impressive 32-11 record and national qualification as a true freshman last year, Meyer has earned the Midwest region's preseason No. 8 ranking in the 141-pound weight class.
The two national caliber wrestlers will be joined by nine other returning letterwinners looking to build on last year's 3-8 dual record. Six freshmen will also try to improve their skills under the guidance of 12-year head coach David Schutter.
The Bulldogs also return senior Corey Crandall at 149 pounds who posted an outstanding 29-13 record a year ago.
In contrast to last year's lone home meet, this year the 'Dogs will host six matches in Pershing Arena, including the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships in early March.
