Wrestling Signs Three Players To 2004-05 Roster
Wrestling head coach David Schutter announced that three players have signed to wrestle for the Bulldogs for the 2004-05 season.
Matthew Craig, from Paw Paw, Mich., will likely wrestle in the heavyweight spot for the Bulldogs. He earned state runner-up honors in Michigan this past season at 215-pounds while competing for Mattawan High School.
Spencer Mango, from Florissant, Mo., is projected as a 125-pound wrestler for Truman. At CBC, he was a two-time high school state champion, winning the 103-pound title in 2003 and the 112-pound crown this past season. He placed third at the USA Junior National Championship in both Freestyle and Greco Roman. He is rated No. 5 in the nation for 112-pounds by Intermat.
Chad Swagman, from O'Fallon, Mo., will be a 149-pound wrestler for the Bulldogs. He has won back-to-back 140-pound state championships for Fort Zumwalt North.
Truman is looking to build on one of its top seasons in program history in 2003-04. Junior Merrick Meyer won the first national championship for the school in 36 years when he captured the 141-pound title. Another junior, Gregg Nurrenbern, earned all-American honors after placing seventh at the national competition. Three other Bulldogs placed at the regional meet and all three are expected back next season.
