Bulldog Wrestlers Go 1-2 In Dual Meets
The Truman wrestling team had a busy Sunday, competing in three road dual meets throughout the day. The squad went 1-2 with a win over SIU-Edwardsville and losses to McKendree and Lindenwood.
The Bulldogs won the final four weight classes against SIU-Edwardsville to win the dual by a 25-16 score. Truman led by just three points going into the final bout before the Bulldogs heavyweight Bryan Jovick sealed the win with a pin at 4:45.
Truman led for most of the way against McKendree, but wasn't as fortunate late in the match. The Bearcats won three of the final four matches, including a pin at heavyweight, for the come-from-behind win.
Lindenwood won eight of the 10 matches in the final dual meet of the day as Truman fell by a score of 34-9. Gordon Harrison was the highlight in that meet by recording a pin at 174-pounds.
Truman's Merrick Meyer, wrestling at 141-pounds, was the only Bulldog to go 3-0 on the day. Kelly Latting, Harrison and Gregg Nurrenbern each recorded two victories on the day and Allen Stokes picked up one win on the mat and another by forfeit.
The Bulldogs will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to Minnesota State-Mankato for a 7 p.m. contest. The team is now 3-9 on the year in dual meets.
