Truman Wrestling Team is Top Academic Team in NCAA Division II According to Coaches
The Truman wrestling team recently earned the No. 1 ranking on the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Teams list.
According to the way the NWCA calculates the award, Truman topped the list of all-academic teams with a score of 3.374. The team score is figured by averaging the cumulative grade point averages of 10 wrestlers on the team, eight of which must have competed in their team's NCAA Division II national qualifying tournament. The grade point average of the entire Truman team is actually 2.98.
Individually, three wrestlers were named to the second and honorable mention teams by the NWCA. Junior Corey Crandall (Buckner, Mo./Fort Osage) and sophomore Kelly Latting (St. Anne, Ill./Bishop McNamara) were named to the all-academic second team, while sophomore David Buhler (Liberty, Mo.) was an honorable mention selection.
Crandall, who was 29-13 for the year, posted the second-most wins on the team for the season at 157 pounds and has an overall GPA of 3.14, while Latting has a 3.01 GPA and went 9-7 at 149 pounds before his season was cut short by an injury. Buhler, who has a 3.65 GPA, lost two matches for the year.
The Bulldogs qualified individuals for the NCAA Division II National Championships for the 10th straight season and completed the year with a 3-8 dual record.
