Buhler Earns All-America Honors As Truman Wrestlers Finish Season At NCAA Division II Championships
Senior Calvin Buhler (Liberty, Mo.) earned all-America recognition at the 1999 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships after going 4-2 for the weekend and placing fourth in the 165-pound weight class. It was the first such honor for the Bulldog co-captain who finished the season with a 37-8 record. The event was held at the Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse on March 12-13.
Buhler became the Truman career wins record-holder earlier this season and finishes his career with 122-41 mark from 1995-99. As a freshman, he posted a 25-12 record, followed by a 34-6 mark as a sophomore, and last year, his record was 26-15.
Junior Brad Kieffer (Mt. Carmel, Ill.) also qualified for nationals this year in the 141-pound weight class. Kieffer was 1-2 during the two-day event and finished the 1998-99 campaign with a 27-12 record.
Both men finished second at the Midwest Regional Championships on Feb. 27 to earn berths to the NCAA championships.
Truman tied with San Francisco State for 19th in the nation with 12.5 points during the DII tournament. Host Nebraska-Omaha was the national champion with 101.5 points. Central Missouri finished in 22nd-place with 9.5 points.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 3-7 dual record
