Truman Wrestlers Win First Dual Of Season At Shippensburg

The Truman wrestling won its first dual of the season at the 12-team NCAA Division II East Region Duals hosted by Shippensburg University (Pa.) on Saturday.

In round one of the meet, Truman defeated Gardner-Webb (N.C.) 23-21 to claim its first dual victory of the 1999-2000 season.

In round two, the Bulldogs lost to Shippensburg 27-19, and in round three they fell to Kutztown (Pa.), 27-18.

Gannon (Pa.) defeated Truman 34-17 in round four.

Three Bulldogs posted 4-0 records for the day. Senior 141-pounder Brad Kieffer (Mt. Carmel, Ill.), ranked second in the nation in his weight class, went 4-0 and improved to 18-2 for the year.

At 165 pounds, junior Tony Spiker (Blue Springs, Mo.) won all four of his matches, as did junior 184-pounder Chris Benner (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City).

Since becoming eligible in December, Spiker has posted a 6-2 record, while Benner is 12-5 for the year.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Jan. 22 for a dual at Central College (Iowa).
