Truman Wrestlers Open Season at Central Missouri Open
The Truman wrestling team opened the 2001-02 campaign at the Central Missouri State University Open Wrestling Tournament last Saturday.
At 125 pounds, freshman Allan Stokes (Kansas City, Mo./Hickman Mills) went 2-2 with a close loss to a Division I opponent from the University of Iowa, 7-6.
At 133-pounds, sophomore Grant Strickland (Wagner, Okla.) was 0-2, while the 133 and 141 weight classes were vacant for the Bulldogs.
At 149 pounds, sophomore Kelley Latting (St. Anne, Ill./Bishop McNamara) posted a 1-2 record with a major decision (11-1) over a Missouri Valley College grappler.
AT 157 Pounds, junior Corey Crandall (Buckner, Mo./Fort Osage) also went 2-2, with both losses coming to University of Iowa men.
At 165 pounds, junior Bo Rinehart (Maysville, Mo.) lost both matches to Division I foes from Eastern Illinois University and the University of Missouri.
At 174 Pounds, freshman Greg Nurrenbern (Fulton, Mo.) won his first college bout by fall over a Missouri Valley competitor in 1:42 and was 1-2 for the meet, while freshman Tom Tajkowski (St. Peters, Mo./DeSmet) lost his first two college matches to Central Missouri and Missouri Valley mat-men.
at 184 pounds, sophomore Nate Kessen (Rochelle, Ill.) was another 2-2 performer for the Bulldogs at the open tourney. He won by fall over an unattached entrant and beat his Baccone College (Okla.) competitor by injury default.
at 197 pounds, another freshman, Matt Sonn (St. Louis/Horton Watkins), made his collegiate debut and tallied his first win over a Division I University of Oklahoma opponent by injury default and went 2-1 at the open.
