Sept. 12, 2006 – The women’s tennis team handed the Quincy Hawks a 7-2 defeat in the home dual match opener on Tuesday afternoon. Truman is 1-0 and will next face Westminster next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Truman Tennis Courts.
The number one duo of Courtney Walther and Lindsy Blair, after a sensational freshmen season, defeated the Hawks top team by an 8-3 score. Jennifer Salmon and Hannah Wittmer were also victorious in number two doubles by an 8-2 tally. Quincy’s Julia Rodriguez and Sarah Harris score the Hawks only doubles win at number three by an 8-6 margin.
Four of the six singles matches were easily won by the Bulldogs. Walther won at number two 6-2, 6-2, while Blair, Wittmer and Jessie Krause were also straight set winners. Salmon needed a 7-6 winner in the first set over Kerry Romani in number one singles before coasting to a 6-2 victory in the second for the win.
