Nov. 12, 2007 - Four Bulldog volleyball players earned all-MIAA recognition Monday, as juniors Allie Cherven and Melissa Keck were named to the all-MIAA first-team, while junior Eli Medina was named to the second-team and junior Whitney Boehler received honorable mention status.
The region's top seeded Bulldogs were represented by a repeat first-team selection in Cherven (St. Charles, Mo.; Francis Howell Central/University of Pittsburgh), while Keck (Belleville, Ill.; Belleville Township West) received first-team status for the first-time. Cherven's .330 hitting percentage ranks third in the MIAA and she's second in blocks with 1.33 per game. Keck is just ahead of Cherven in hitting, ranking second at .336.
Medina (Kansas City, Mo.; St. Teresa's Academy) followed her 2006 honorable mention status with a second-team berth after leading Truman in kills and games played during the regular season. Medina also moved into the top-5 in all-time digs at Truman this season.
Boehler (Olathe, Kan.; Olathe East) was named to the honorable mention squad for the second straight season. She is averaging a team-best 4.77 digs/game in her second full season as the squad's primary libero.
Washburn senior Tessa Jones was named conference MVP, and Emporia State setter Ting Liu received freshman of the year honors. Washburn coach Chris Herron was named coach of the year.
All members of the first-team will be in Kirksville this weekend for the South Central regional, as Pitt State's Pamela Cartagena, Emporia's Arica Shepard and Central Missouri's Jillian Ohrmann and Audrey Jensen join Cherven, Keck, Jones and Washburn's Monica Meisner as the eight members on the first-team.
