Oct. 16, 2008 - Two of Truman’s fall sports teams received recognition in the NCAA’s official regional rankings on Wednesday, as the women’s soccer squad held the top spot in its region, while Truman volleyball currently sits third in its first official poll.

Mike Cannon’s women’s soccer squad, currently 9-3-1 on the season, was one of four MIAA schools in the top-six, as Truman, ranked 25th in the NSCAA top-25 coaches’ poll, was joined by Central Missouri (No. 2), Washburn (No. 3) and Nebraska-Omaha (No. 4) in the poll’s first release.

A trio of juniors currently pace the team, as Riley Mahn and Katie Reuck share the team lead in both goals (5) and points (13) so far in 2008. Jessica Wiegert, a two-time all-MIAA selection, leads the team in shots and has scored four times this season.

The Bulldogs have three matches in five days during the upcoming weekend, as Truman travels to Northwest Missouri this afternoon before hosting Missouri Western on Saturday and UNO on Monday, Oct. 20.

Meanwhile, Jason Skoch’s volleyball team, currently 12th in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA top-25 coaches’ poll, came in behind Emporia State and West Texas A&M and were one of five MIAA teams in the top-eight. Central Missouri (No. 4), Washburn (No. 5) and Pittsburg State (No. 6) joined Truman and Emporia as MIAA representatives. Southwest Baptist is currently seeded ninth.

The senior-laden squad currently holds a 19-5 overall record (6-2 MIAA) and has four players averaging more than two kills per set. Senior Eli Medina leads the team with a 2.95 kills per set mark, while seniors Lisa Weber, Melissa Keck and Allie Cherven are all hitting better than .300 on the season.

Truman will play two road matches this weekend, starting Friday night at Northwest Missouri before wrapping up the quick trip with a Saturday night contest in St. Joseph at Missouri Western.
