Nov. 12, 2008 – The Truman Wrestling team has signed two high school standouts to National Letters of Intent. Ryan Banning and Colton Schmitz will join the team for the 2009-10 season.
Banning (Wildwood, Mo./CBC) enters his senior season with a 116-15 high school overall record and placed 2nd last year in the Class 4 Missouri State High School Championships at 119 pounds. Banning has placed at the state tournament in each of his first three seasons as a high school wrestler.
He is also an eight-time all-American awarded by the NHSCA National Folkstyle Championships.
Schmitz (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville) was the 2008 Missouri State Champion at 135 pounds. Schmitz finished second in 2007 and third in 2006 in Class 2. He enters his senior season as the preseason favorite in the state at 140 pounds.
