Nov. 15, 2008 – The Truman women’s basketball team let a 12 point lead with 3:22 to play in regulation slip away Saturday night, as the Cameron Aggies battled back for a 77-76 double overtime win at the Texas Woman’s Invitational in
A Sarah Gordon bucket with just over three minutes to play gave Truman (0-1) a 59-47 lead, but the ’Dogs went cold down the stretch, turning the ball over five times and missing two field goals to allow Cameron to close to within two at 59-57 with nine seconds remaining. Julie Guinn missed the front end of a one-and-one and Mueller lipped out the following put-back, resulting in a reach-in foul with one second to play against the Bulldogs – sending Cameron to the charity stripe.
From there, Kristi Taylor sank a pair to send the game to overtime.
Neither team lead by more than three throughout the first overtime session, when another late foul on Truman sent Cameron (1-0) back to the line with three seconds to play, down two.
Truman trailed by one with 10 seconds to play before Laura Joya hit a lay-up to give Truman a one-point advantage. But again,
Mueller led all Bulldogs with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Joya (14), Malorie Kiecker (12) and Erin Mayes (11) each added double-figures. Truman shot 54.2% for the game and out-rebounded CU by 10, but 30 turnovers led to 15 more field goal opportunities for the Aggies.
Truman will face the host TWU Pioneers on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the TWU Premiere.
