Nov. 15, 2008 – Eleven kills from senior Lisa Weber helped the No. 9 Bulldog volleyball squad celebrate senior night in style, as Truman wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 (-13, -16, -20) win against Missouri Western on Saturday night in Pershing Arena.
The Bulldogs (29-7, 16-4 MIAA) will now await word for its seeding in the upcoming NCAA tournament. Ranked third in the most recent regional rankings, Truman is in line for its ninth consecutive postseason appearance.
It took the visiting Griffons (4-32, 1-19 MIAA) until late in the third set to get into positive numbers hitting-wise, as the Bulldog defense stifled Missouri Western’s attack into an offensive output of .010 for the match. Meanwhile, the purple and white countered with a .315 clip, and got double-digit points from both Weber (11.5; 11 kills, one block assist) and senior Allie Cherven (10.5; seven kills, two aces, two blocks).
Seniors Eli Medina, Dana Hanselmann and Melissa Keck combined for 19 kills and 19 digs, while Medina and senior Whitney Boehler each added 10 digs to share the match-high.
Prior to the match, the squad’s six seniors were recognized for their achievements as Bulldogs, which include a 133-21 career record, and nearly 4,500 kills, 4,500 digs and 1,500 blocks.
Meghan Voelz recorded 12 points for the Griffons on nine kills, two block assists and a pair of service aces.
With the win, Truman secured second place in the highly-competitive MIAA, finishing two games behind EmporiaState (18-2) and one game ahead of Washburn (15-5). The team is also just one win away from its sixth consecutive 30-win season.
