AVCA Official Release

Nov. 26, 2008 – Four Truman senior volleyball players – Allie Cherven, Melissa Keck, Eli Medina and Whitney Boehler – received all-Region honors as released Wednesday by the AVCA. Cherven, Keck and Medina were named to the all-Region team, while Boehler picked up honorable mention status.

Cherven and Keck were third-time selections to the South Central all-Region team, while Medina and Boehler were named to the squad for the first time.

Cherven (St. Charles, Mo.; Francis Howell Central) was a second-team all-American selection last year and an honorable mention all-America pick in 2006, while Keck (Belleville, Ill.; Belleville) received third-team all-American accolades in 2007 as a junior. Both were first-team all-MIAA recipients this year.

Medina (Kansas City, Mo.; St. Teresa’s Academy) and Boehler (Olathe, Kan.; Olathe East) were named to the all-Region squad for the first time in their careers after picking up second-team all-MIAA honors this season.

Cherven, Keck and Medina will advance to the National ballot for all-American consideration, to be released next week.

Medina (3.37 points/set), Cherven (3.27 pts/set) and Keck (2.84 pts/set) ranked first through third on the 2008 squad in points and comprise three of the program’s 13 total members of the 1,000-kill club. Boehler, meanwhile, set the Truman single-season digs record as the team’s libero this season with 628 and currently sports the program’s highest digs/set average at 4.41 per set.

Truman (32-7) captured its fifth South Central regional title since 2001 last weekend and will face Nova-Southeastern (Fla.) in the National Quarterfinal to be held on Thursday, Dec. 4, in St. Paul, Minn. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
