Senior Georgia Mueller hit 11 field goals – including a pair of three-pointers – to lead all scorers with 24 points, while sophomore Malorie Kiecker set a new career-high with 20.
The Bulldogs (3-8, 0-4 MIAA) shot a blistering 63.3% in the first half to out-duel the conference’s top scoring offense 45-43 heading into the break. Truman hit seven first-half three-pointers and led by as many as ten midway through the opening frame.
After Emporia (10-1, 4-0 MIAA) knotted the score at 59 apiece with 9:13 remaining in the game, junior guard Julie Guinn dropped a pair of free throws to give the Bulldogs its last lead of the night at 61-59 with just more than eight minutes to play. From there, ESU hit a lay-up and three long-range bombs to push its lead to five at 70-65 before matching Truman bucket-for-bucket to maintain a 74-69 edge with 2:51 left on the clock.
A Cassondra Boston three-pointer gave the Lady Hornets an eight-point lead before three Breanna Daniels free throws cut the deficit to five once again with 1:31 to play. From there, ESU hit four free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.
The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 47% (26-for-55) but hit just 28% of its second-half field goals and didn’t attempt a three-pointer. After not reaching the line in the first half, Truman hit 13-of-16 charity stripe chances in the second 20 minutes to finish at 81%.
Daniels chipped in 10 points as Truman’s only other player in double-figures, and Guinn tacked on nine. Junior Laura Joya helped balance Truman’s attack with seven points, seven rebounds and five assists, as Truman out-rebounded the Lady Hornets 31-29 for the game.
