Feb. 21, 2009 – Missouri Western scored 18 of the final 22 points to pull away from the Truman men’s basketball team on Saturday night in St. Joseph.  The Griffons, behind 15 points from Marcus Rhodes defeated the Bulldogs 68-47 in the season road finale.

 

Despite shooting just 29% and turning the ball over 12 times in the first half, Truman (6-20/1-18 MIAA) trailed by just five at the break and was as close as two points midway through the second.

 

Patrick Fandja, who scored a career high 23 in the last meeting with the Griffons, and Alex Henderson scored four for the Bulldogs to cut the Griffon lead down to five with 7:12 left.

 

However, Missouri Western (12-13/9-9 MIAA) went on a 14-0 run and closed out the Bulldogs.

 

Banks Estridge recorded a career high 12 rebounds to go along with his 12 points.  Henderson added 11 as they were the only two ‘Dogs to score in double figures.

 

The Griffons were just 2-of-14 from long range but had 11 offensive rebounds and outscored Truman 36-14 in the paint.

 

The Bulldogs will be off until next Saturday when they will face Central Missouri in the season finale.  Their will be free admission to the game with a donation of a canned food item.  The drive is sponsored by Truman’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and part of the MIAA’s month-long drive.  All donations will stay in the Kirksville community.
