April 21, 2009 – The Truman women’s golf team placed second in the inaugural MIAA Women’s Golf Championship event at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Liberty, Mo. Krystal Limsiaco and Erin Semple were named to the all-tournament team.
Windy conditions hampered the first day as eventual champion Nebraska-Omaha built a 14-shot lead over the Bulldogs. Limsiaco carded an 86 while Semple, playing as a medalist turned in an 85. Jen Lawson had the second best round on the day for the tournament with her 80 and trailed Erin Ommen of the Mavericks by five shots heading into the final round.
Truman could only cut one shot off the deficit on Tuesday but had a solid round from the team’s only senior Julie Williams. Williams shot a 79, the second lowest round of the day and only the fourth score in the 70s for the tournament to tie for seventh place with Lawson.
Limsiaco and Semple tied for fifth with a two-day total of 169. Liz Lestmann finished 9th (86—85) and Jessica Schepker tied for 14th.
The Bulldogs were a solid second as they defeated third place Missouri Western by 80 shots and fourth place Northwest Missouri by 100.
Truman will await word if they will advance either as a team or as individuals to the NCAA West Regional in two weeks.
