August 4, 2009 – The Truman Cheerleaders and Showgirls recently attended the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) college camps at Missouri State University in Springfield. Headlined by a first-place finish by the cheerleading squad in the “sideline” division, the squads accumulated six trophies at the event.
The Cheerleaders brought home three trophies, including a first-place finish in the large small-coed “Sideline” division, a second-place mark in the small-coed fight song competition and third-place in the large small-coed “Cheer” competition. The squad also won five Superior (blue) ribbons.
The Truman Showgirls also had a successful camp, picking up hardware on the first evening in the Home Routine evaluation, placing second in the Open division. Then, showcasing their memory, showmanship and technique regarding routines learned throughout the camp’s first two days, the Showgirls won the Superior Performance award – given to the team with the highest ribbon accumulation scores. Based on the dancer’s performance, they can earn either a Superior, Excellent, or Outstanding (white) ribbon. The Showgirls received 13 Superior and 3 Excellent ribbons to win a Superior Performance trophy.
Spike the Bulldog also attended UCA’s Mascot Camp and was presented with the Most Improved Mascot award. Spike brought home one Superior and one Excellent ribbon for his efforts.
