The Truman women’s soccer team wraps up non-conference play this weekend by hosting a four-team Classic in Kirksville. The Bulldogs (1-1) and Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks will each play No. 23 St. Edward’s (Texas) and Central Oklahoma in the regional crossover event.

Bulldog Coaching Staff:
Mike Cannon is in his 17th season as the program’s head coach, having compiled a 217-77-27 overall record at Truman. He has guided the purple and white to eight (of ten) MIAA championships and has reached the NCAA tournament seven times.
He is assisted by Martin Clayes, who is in his second season at Truman as a member of the coaching staff following a four-year stint as a player on the men’s soccer team.
Scouting the Opposition:
#23 St. Edward’s (Texas) - (2-0 record; Heartland conference member)
Jumping into the NSCAA top-25 this week, the Hilltoppers opened the 2009 campaign with a pair of home wins last weekend. SEU knocked off Missouri Southern, 3-0, in their season opener before dispatching Central Oklahoma, 2-0, on Sunday, Aug. 30.
SEU boasts a stingy defense, allowing just five total shots (one on goal) in their first two games while countering with 47 shots of their own. Stacey Copeland tallied two goals on nine shots while Lexi Iverson has notched a goal and an assist.
Troi Jorgenson got the start in net both games, though backup Claire Tilton saw a combined 60 minutes of action between the two contests.
Nick Cowell is the head coach of the Hilltoppers, and he is in his fourth year with the program.
Central Oklahoma - (0-2 record; Lone Star conference member)
After starting the season winless at the St. Edward’s tournament last weekend, the UCO Bronchos will look to pick up a pair of results against the Bulldogs and Mavericks this weekend in Kirksville. UCO lost their season opener 2-1 to Incarnate Word before being shutout by the SEU Hilltoppers, 2-0.
Meghan Saliba was the only UCO player to find pay-dirt in the first two Broncho matches, as Central Oklahoma mustered just six shots on target. Both Samantha Rusk and Megan Riley started and played a full game in goal, and each allowed a pair of goals.
Mike Cook is in his 13th season at UCO and has posted a career 174-56-12 record in Edmond. He has won 262 total games as a coach spanning 18 seasons.

- Senior M Katie Reuck needs two more goals to crack Truman’s top-10. She currently sits with 16, two behind Robyn Mortenson’s 18 (2003-2006).
-Freshman F Olivia Hayes became the first Bulldog to score in the team’s season opener since Anna Smith accomplished the feat on Sept. 1, 1999.
- The Sunday overtime loss at Quincy was the first OT loss for Truman in nearly two years (Oct. 27, 2007). The ’Dogs haven’t won an OT game since Sept. 30, 2006.
- The Bulldogs bring a 14-season streak of winning 10 or more games into the 2009 campaign.
2009 Media Guide Now Available:
Fans can purchase their copy of the 2009 Bulldog women’s soccer media guide at all home matches this season (starting with the Sept. 17 match against Washburn) or online in the Team Store at gobulldogs.truman.edu. The 40-page guide sells for $5 and can also be viewed online.
The Bulldogs begin the MIAA portion of the schedule with a two-match road trip next week to Northwest Missouri and Nebraska-Omaha. The Bulldogs will play the Bearcats on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4 pm before traveling to face the Mavs on Saturday, Sept. 12 at noon.
